MBALE CITY — The spirit of service and leadership was on full display this past weekend as students from across Mbale gathered at North Road Primary School to mark the conclusion of the annual Scouts Founder’s Week to celebrateLord Robert Baden-Powell. The event brought together enthusiastic scouts from various institutions, including Mbale High School and Nkoma Secondary School, serving as a grand finale to a week dedicated to unity and social responsibility. Participants spent the week engaging in impactful projects, most notably a tree-planting initiative and various community service activities aimed at improving the local environment.

The culmination of the week featured a formal ceremony to induct the next generation of youth leaders, where certificates were awarded to recognize the hard work of the participants. Mr. Okurut Sam, the Regional Coordinator, presided over the initiation, officially swearing in the new scouts and welcoming them into the global movement. This ceremony was held in the presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Waluko John, the Inspector of Schools, who joined other high-ranking officials in celebrating the scouts’ achievements.

During the proceedings, Mr. Wamalwa Augustine, the Commissioner for Mbale, commended the schools that sent their students to participate, noting that such involvement is crucial for building character outside the classroom. Adding to this sentiment, the City Executive Commissioner, Ms. Arionget Agnes, emphasized the vital need to celebrate Founder’s Week as a way to instill the values of duty and discipline. The successful gathering served as a powerful reminder of the Scouting movement’s role in empowering the youth of Mbale to become active, service-oriented citizens.
