The “C Price” as the Coffee Industry Knows It is Being Phased Out

The New York-based Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), one of the world’s major commodity trading platforms, said it is phasing out the current U.S.-cents-per-pound benchmark for the arabica coffee trade, known as the “C Price.”

ICE said yesterday that it was immediately pausing the listing of new contract months, with March 2028 being the final date listed for traditional arabica futures contracts. Coffee serial and weekly options contracts will similarly be phased out, with February 2028 being the final month.

New arabica futures contracts will be priced in metric tons, rather than using U.S. cents per pound. Additionally, the new contracts will allow coffee to be stored in Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers, commonly known as FIBCs, or “super sacks.” These large, flexible bags that can hold substantial quantities of coffee beans are commonly found throughout coffee warehouses.

As the three-year sunset on traditional C contract pricing begins, launch dates for the new contract types have not yet been announced. Yet the move is certain to dramatically reshape how commodity coffee pricing is communicated and benchmarked within the coffee industry.

“To me it makes sense, and I’m surprised they didn’t do it a while ago,” commodities expert Judith Ganes of J Ganes Consulting told DCN following yesterday’s ICE announcement. “It now aligns with London in dollars per ton and [is an] easier conversion from tons to 60-kilo bags. Also it takes into consideration big bags now, and bulk shipping. Price-by-the-pound was becoming more obsolete.”

The coffee “C” contract has been a cornerstone of global coffee trading for decades, allowing buyers and sellers to lock in prices for future delivery of arabica coffee beans while providing a global reference point for prices.

Originally created by Central American producers who sought to differentiate their coffees from Brazilian coffees — the “C” originally stood for “Centrals” —  the C Price as we know it dates back to 1969. As a price reference, it has been characterized by volatility, particularly in the free market era since the 1989 collapse of the International Coffee Agreement on quotas.

Without some other significant interventions, the ICE change is not likely to reshape the underlying dynamics of the arabica trade globally. However, it will require market participants to recalibrate their calculators.

Ganes likened the change to when the ICE’s contract for frozen concentrate orange juice (FCOJ) was updated from 55-gallon drums to bulk containers, better reflecting the standard practices within the industry.

“It will take some getting used to [differential] quotes for arabica being aligned, but that isn’t really a challenge,” Ganes said of ICE’s coffee conversion from USD to metric. “It just becomes a one-time adjustment on spreadsheets to align historical data, but [it’s] not hard to do. And, probably, most have it converted already both ways to look at the arbitrage.”

Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park Opens Small Gate for workers  https://kadodimediahouse.com/sino-uganda-mbale-industrial-park-opens-small-gate-for-workers/ https://kadodimediahouse.com/sino-uganda-mbale-industrial-park-opens-small-gate-for-workers/#respond Tue, 14 Jan 2025 15:53:28 +0000 https://smartmag.theme-sphere.com/digi-tech/review-post-percent/ The Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial park has bowed to the pressure of employees who for almost 4 years have been requesting for the reopening of the alternative entry to the Industrial park.

The small gate comes to the rescue of the majority of park workers from over ten villages in Industrial city Division in Mbale city who have complained of a long journey to the park and costly transport fares.
Thousands of workers hailing from Masanda,Marare,Bugema B, Zabanyanya,Musoto ,Wambewo ,Nabitiri, Khamoto,Maluku among others were cut off from accessing the park from the lower parts of the Industrial park after they paused a security threat according to the Industrial park management.
The completion of the new bridge road that connects the villages to park crossing a stream has barely two months after park workers reported the matter to the city leaders about the need for better working conditions among which was the access road.

On Saturday in the presence of the Mbale city local leaders ,security heads and residents the access bridge road was opened and was welcomed by residents who said some of their children and colleagues had left work because of the transport costs and long journey to the main gate on Tirinyi road.
Walyeku Musa, 60 year old from Masanda, welcomed the move by the Chinese to open the new entrance as an act of humanity and feeling for others.

“We are so happy that this gate has been opened since it was closed in 2020 and our children have been trekking almost 7 kilometres to the main entrance yet they are looking at where the are going from this end, wit the opening if this gate even the aged like me will go and get something to do inside the Industrial park” He told Daily Monitor.

He adds that workers are required to pay 3000 shillings to the main gate of the Mbale Sino Uganda Industrial park on Mbale -Tirinyi road.
The Mbale City Mayor Cassim Namugali said they had received numerous alarms from residents and leaders calling for the opening of the gate and have been pushing the investors to construct an alternative way into the park.

“Our work as leaders is to listen to our people and present their grievances to the responsible offices for handling and since his park started operations, our people have Been calling on us to ask the Chinese to open this gate which brings in thousands of workers from over 10 villages in Industrial city Division, they have been getting little pay and all is spent on transport ” Namugali said adding that they have been negotiating for the construction of the acces road which finally paid and are to push for the increase of workers’ salaries which is another concern amongst employees.

Asumin Nasike the Mbale Resident City Commissioner called on the residents and neighbours to the park to comply with the security measures of the park to enjoy using the access road.

“I was told this gate was closed because residents and neighbours to the park had started misbehaving and pausing security threats to the investors and asking you to be compliant with the demands of the employers so that you can continue using this gate or else it will be closed again” Nasike said.
Honourable Karim Masaba representing Industrial city Division during the opening revealed that there is a resolution by Uganda Investment Authority which is waiting for parliament approval to have infrastructure improved in the Kapeka and Mbale Industrial parks.

“I want to thank the investors for listening to our people’s concerns and as leaders we fully support the development of the park as it is now employing thousands of our people ,I want to inform you that we shall also support initiatives aimed at seeing this Industrial park grow,I am aware of the Uganda Investment Authority’s plan to align infrastructure in the major industrial parks in the country and on a serious note we want them to work on river nashibiso which is a major threat to this park and the neighbouring communities when it floods ” he said.

The Sino Uganda Industrial Park Administrator called on the public for a good working relationship as the development of the park is also aimed at developing the neighbouring communities.
“We want our people to use this gate well while coming to work here ,only workers will be allowed to get in and out of this gate, we want to work together and ensure that the Industrial park develops as our people neighbouring us also develop” He said.

Failed Rapid Economic Growth in Bugisu Attributed to Commercialized Politics https://kadodimediahouse.com/failed-rapid-economic-growth-in-bugisu-attributed-to-commercialized-politics/ https://kadodimediahouse.com/failed-rapid-economic-growth-in-bugisu-attributed-to-commercialized-politics/#respond Fri, 10 Jan 2025 20:16:09 +0000 https://smartmag.theme-sphere.com/digi-tech/ryzen-7000-isnt-getting-much-cheaper-for-pc-builders/ The failed economic growth in Bugisu sub region has been attributed to the recent trend in politics where electorates fall for candidates who hold expensive monetized campaigns.

In Uganda, reports indicated that one needs between 800 million to 1 billion shillings to contest for a parliamentary position.

Matthias Nabutele a former Minister of Umukuka under Inzu Iya Masaba and a born of Manafa district says the trend has led to Stagnation especially in Bugisu sub region related to poor legislation and representation as most leaders especially members of parliament spend the years trying to recover from the death.

“And such leaders are not representatives of the people, cannot take their concerns, voters don’t hold him or her accountable because they were bought and will be waiting to receive handouts during burials and other events” Nabutele said.

Nabutele observes that leaders especially members of parliament start buying voters from the moments they start showing interest for the position until election time.

“Some positions like the LC V and MPs start spending on voters from the concluded election to the next one election and the incumbent MP keeps competing with the ghost MP to be and when one goes through has to recover financially for all the last five years he spent while not even in parliament” Nabutele said adding that the incumbent now fails to concentrate on legislation and keeps on marking who has died in the constituency to compete with the ‘to be’ who is always on ground  and will all be giving money.

This style of politics according to Nabutele limits economic growth in the region as each member of parliament acts independently without collective efforts for the development of the region.

“Now because of commercialized politics, look at our caucus, they don’t have a particular development plan for the region because they are all people with different interests who were elected because of their money, they don’t have time to sit and discuss matters of Bugisu because they didn’t go to represent the region but to make money and when the president was here, what did our members of parliament demand from the president to benefit their voters” he said.

Nabutele advised that the members of parliament should now change the method of legislation if they are to realize rapid economic growth in the Bugisu sub region.

“our Members of Parliament should now work together and get back to their constituencies as a caucus, tour the whole of Bugisu and identify services and projects that suit each district or constituency and set each year for lobbying in parliament under collective effort than leaving matters for an individual who may not be good at representing people on the of parliament” He suggested.

He also says leaders should sensitize locals on the dangers of falling for handouts and instead direct the money to village savings groups and associations to better their livelihood.

Bugisu sub region has a total of seven districts including Bududa, Bulambuli, Manafwa, Mbale district, Namisindwa ,Sironko and Mbale city with over 25 members of parliament but the Bugisu Parliamentary caucus has not been effective through its chairperson hon Richard Wanda who has severally decried insensible members.

Why we liked the 16-inch Model:

The 2021 MacBook Air uses an Apple M1 chip that delivers great performance and fantastic battery life. And the keyboard is finally improved with the new switches. But the Air’s light weight, solid construction, and industry-trailing support make it a decent laptop, especially if you also own an iPhone or other Apple devices.

Google and Facebook were comparatively passive when the draft code first emerged in 2019, as part of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Digital Platforms Inquiry. Providing advance notice of any changes.

Forget Your Fears and Worries

Success isn’t about the end result, it’s about what you learn along the way. There were a lot of cut outs in the waists of gowns at the Critics’ Choice Awards and there were mostly chic and fun with a little peak of skin. The contrast in these stories help to highlight what we’ve learned:

  • Light comes from all sorts of randomness void.
  • It’s a blessing, but also a terrible defect sensational.
  • Smart phones are a massive energy drain.
  • Buy SmartMag for your successful site.

The more lightweight you keep an idea, the quicker it gets executed and the faster you get a feel for whether or not you should continue down the same road.

We’d love to show you how to make a great living as a writer. Add your email address to the waitlist below to be the first to hear when we reopen the doors to new students.

UK Companies Eye Singapore as Regional Gateway https://kadodimediahouse.com/uk-companies-eye-singapore-as-regional-gateway/ https://kadodimediahouse.com/uk-companies-eye-singapore-as-regional-gateway/#respond Thu, 10 Mar 2022 20:16:01 +0000 https://smartmag.theme-sphere.com/digi-tech/uk-companies-eye-singapore-as-regional-gateway/ To understand the new smart watched and other pro devices of recent focus, we should look to Silicon Valley and the quantified movement.

Apple’s Watch records exercise, tracks our moves throughout the day, checks the amount of time we are stood up and reminds us to get up and move around if we have been sat for too long – let’s not forget Tim Cooks “sitting is the new coolness” line.

To its detractors, love at first sight must be an illusion – the wrong term for what is simply infatuation, or a way to sugarcoat lust.

Best Chromebook: Google Pixelbook Go

Tech Specs

  • 13.3-inch LCD touchscreen display
  • Intel Core i5-1135G7
  • 256 GB SSD
  • 8GB DD4 Ram
  • 12.5 battery hours
  • 3.1 Pound

Who these are for: Students, people who need only basic features, and anyone who wants a cheap laptop to use as a second PC.

Why we liked the Google Pixelbook Go!

The Google Pixelbook Go is a beautiful package, from the gorgeous 13.3 inch touchscreen display and accurate keyboard to the 12-hour battery. It costs a few hundred dollars less than our top ultrabook pick and has nearly identical specs.

And unlike most cheap ultrabooks, the notebook is sturdy, has a fingerprint reader, and comes with a convenient and easily replaceable USB-C charger.

Best MacBook: Apple rMBP 16-inch

Tech Specs

  • 16-inch LCD touchscreen display
  • Intel Core i5-1135G7
  • 512GB SSD
  • 16GB DD4 Ram
  • 10.5 battery hours
  • 2 Pounds

Who these are for: If you prefer macOS or need limited tech support, a MacBook is a safe bet. The 16-inch models usually offer the best performance of size, weight, and speed. They’re great for writers, office workers, commuters, and college students.

As you’re tapping, scrolling, and swiping on your phone, you probably don’t give much thought to the fact that your apps are consuming electricity – just that they’re chipping away at your battery life.

It’s engaging. It’s hopeful. It pushes the plot forward.

Before you click away, disappointed that I brought up something as practical and boring as time management, hear me out. My intent is not to crush your spirits.

Only a quarter of young adults are financially literate. You don’t want to overwhelm them with terrible advice. Best to keep them on track.

You can’t look to your peers in the industry, because all they’re going to tell you is that they are killing it, crushing it, changing the world.

  • Take a social media hiatus. According to a recent survey from Everyday Health, 60 to 70 percent of young adults say they check their social media platforms at least daily. Why not dial that back for the holidays?
  • Stick to your new routine. It’s tempting to shake up your typical schedule when the holidays come around, but women’s health expert and BINTO founder Suzie Welsh emphasizes the importance of routine amid the revelry.
  • Be intentional about fitness. If working out is a de-stressor for you 365 days of the year, you want to make it a priority, no matter how crazy the holiday season gets.

1. There is always the New Project, the New Opportunity.

An awesome day for working remotely.

Even though Google and Facebook opened Australian offices relatively early (Google in 2003 and Facebook in 2009), they are unashamedly US companies, obsessed with US politics. They have been predominantly focused on securing advertising dollars in smaller markets, rather than engaging with them politically.

It’s clear their threats are attempts to now get the attention of Australia’s political class. And if the platforms follow through.

2. To be successful, follow your passion and see where it leads you. All you have to do is jump right in!
