Umukuuka IV Congratulates President Museveni on Electoral Victory, Calls for Unity and Development

Mbale | January 17, 2026
The Umukuuka IV of the Bamasaaba people, His Highness Mayatsa Joram Khamboson, has congratulated all leaders who emerged victorious in the recently concluded parliamentary elections, urging them to serve with humility, integrity, and a strong commitment to unity and development.
In an official communiqué issued by the Inzu Ya Masaaba Cultural Institution, the Umukuuka extended heartfelt congratulations to all elected Members of Parliament representing the people of Masaabaland in the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda. He emphasized that their election reflects the trust, confidence, and hope placed in them by the electorate.

The Umukuuka specifically recognized leaders elected from Mbale District, Mbale City, Bududa, Bulambuli, Manafwa, Namisindwa, and Sironko districts, as well as the Women Members of Parliament representing each district and Mbale City.
He urged the newly elected leaders to prioritize peace, inclusive development, and the unity of communities across Masaabaland, reminding them that leadership is a responsibility that must always serve the people above personal or political interests.
The cultural leader also commended candidates who did not succeed in the elections, acknowledging their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to public service. He encouraged them to remain hopeful, engaged, and committed to serving their communities, noting that leadership is a journey and not limited to a single electoral outcome.
Calling on the people of Masaabaland, both at home and in the diaspora, the Umukuuka appealed for calm, reconciliation, and mutual respect following the elections. He stressed that political differences should never divide the social fabric that binds the Bamasaaba people together through shared heritage, culture, and destiny.
Looking ahead, the Umukuuka emphasized the importance of collective effort in advancing education, healthcare, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and environmental conservation—particularly the protection of Mount Elgon—as key pillars for the region’s sustainable development and prosperity.
He concluded the message by reaffirming the values of wisdom, patience, and unity as the greatest strength of the Bamasaaba people, calling on all leaders and citizens to work together for a peaceful and prosperous Masaabaland.
For God and My Country.
