Uganda Issues Urgent Security Advisory: Urges Citizens in Iran to Leave Amid Escalating Middle East Conflict

US-Israeli Strategy Against Iran

By Our Staff Reporter

Kampala, Uganda – March 1, 2026 – The Government of Uganda has issued a stark security notice to its nationals in the Islamic Republic of Iran, advising those who can to leave the country immediately due to rapidly deteriorating security conditions in the Middle East.

In an official alert dated February 28, 2026, signed by Permanent Secretary Bagiire Vincent Waiswa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government expressed “grave concern” over the evolving situation in the region. The advisory follows a series of major military developments, including joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that reportedly resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, triggering retaliatory actions by Tehran against U.S. bases and other targets across the Middle East.

The notice urges all Ugandan citizens in Iran to prioritize their personal safety and depart “through any possible means” if feasible. It also announces the withdrawal of all non-essential staff from Uganda’s Embassy in Tehran to ensure their protection, with consular services now severely restricted as alternative support arrangements are established.

Key points from the advisory include:
A call for all parties involved in the regional tensions to exercise restraint, prioritize dialogue, and avoid further escalation.

Instructions for Ugandans remaining in Iran to inform community leaders of their whereabouts, stay indoors, and closely monitor credible media for updates on developments, including potential evacuations.

A broader warning for all Ugandan citizens to suspend travel to the Middle East until further notice, citing the “extremely fluid situation” disrupting international travel and heightening risks.

The Ministry emphasized that information regarding evacuations or further assistance would remain limited while the situation stabilizes, underscoring safety as the top priority.

This advisory comes as the Middle East faces one of its most serious crises in recent years, with reports of widespread missile exchanges, airspace closures, and fears of a broader regional conflict. Multiple countries have issued similar travel warnings and evacuation notices for their citizens in affected areas.

Ugandan nationals in Iran or planning travel to the region are encouraged to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or nearest diplomatic mission for the latest guidance.
