ELECTRAL COMMISSION OUTLINES SAFE AND SECURE VOTING PROCESS AHEAD OF POLLING DAY

Kampala, Uganda — The Electoral Commission has reiterated guidelines on how citizens can safely and correctly participate in the voting process, emphasizing that choosing leaders at various elective positions is a fundamental human right guaranteed by the Constitution of Uganda.
In a public awareness message ahead of polling day, voters have been encouraged to follow the established procedures to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible electoral exercise.
Step-by-Step Voting Process
According to the Electoral Commission, voting begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m., and all eligible voters are advised to arrive early at their respective polling stations where they are registered.
Voters should report to the polling station where they are officially registered.
Upon arrival, voters must present a National Identification Card (NIN) or a Voter Location Slip to polling officials, who will confirm their details on the voters’ register.

The voter’s identity is then verified using the Biometric Voter Verification Kit (BVVK) through fingerprint or facial recognition. Biometric verification is mandatory and is intended to ensure that only eligible voters participate in the election, preventing impersonation and multiple voting.
Once verified, the voter is issued a scanned and validated ballot paper, guaranteeing that the ballot is genuine and officially recognized.
Voters proceed to the voting booth to mark their choice in secret, fold the ballot paper, and place it in the ballot box. The voter is then inked to indicate successful participation in the voting exercise.
Security, Transparency, and Voter Confidence
The Electoral Commission has assured the public that the voting process is designed to protect voter identity, maintain ballot secrecy, and uphold the integrity of the election. Security personnel will be present to maintain law and order, while polling officials are trained to assist voters, including the elderly and persons with disabilities.
Voters are reminded that campaigning at polling stations, disorderly conduct, and interference with electoral materials are prohibited by law.
Call for Peaceful Participation
The Commission has called upon all Ugandans to turn up in large numbers, vote peacefully, and respect electoral laws and procedures. Citizens are also urged to accept election outcomes through lawful channels.
As the country prepares for polling day, voters are encouraged to remember the message:
“My Vote, My Voice.”
