By Our Reporter
Mukono, Uganda – February 15, 2026 – Police have arrested a key suspect in the brutal murder of Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, the Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU). The suspect, identified as Dak Hussein Taiwaiko (also referred to in reports as Dak Hussein), was apprehended on February 14, 2026, at his hideout in Budaka District.

According to a police spokesperson from the Joint Security Task Team, the arrest followed intensive investigations into the killing, which occurred on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Tumwebaze, aged 46, was found strangled in her home in Gwafu West, Mukono. The assailant reportedly forced entry into the residence before strangling her and fleeing with her mobile phone and laptop.

Investigators described the recovered items believed to belong to the deceased as significant evidence indirectly linking the suspect to the crime. Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect had previously worked as a househelp (househelp worker) in the late victim’s home, adding a critical new dimension to the case.

The arrest comes amid growing public outcry and sustained demands for swift justice from Tumwebaze’s family, students, the wider university community, and religious leaders. Many have also called for greater clarity on the motive behind the killing.

Tumwebaze was laid to rest at her ancestral home in Kashari South Constituency, Rubanda District. Her death has shocked the academic and Christian community, given her long service at UCU in various capacities, where she was known for her dedication to student welfare.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crime, with the suspect expected to face charges related to murder. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information to come forward as efforts to establish a full motive and any potential accomplices remain ongoing.

This developing story has highlighted concerns over personal safety, particularly for women in leadership roles, and prompted reflections on security measures in residential areas. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
