ELECTORAL COMMISSION GAZETTES 2026 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION RESULTS

By Our Staff Reporter

The Electoral Commission of Uganda formally published the final results of the 2026 Presidential General Election in an Extraordinary Issue of the Uganda Gazette dated February 6, 2026.

This official gazettement, issued under the Presidential Elections Act, Cap. 179, and specifically in line with Section 59(3), provides the legal confirmation of the election outcome originally declared by the Commission following the January 15, 2026, polls.

President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni, the flag bearer for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), has been confirmed as the winner, securing 7,946,772 votes. This victory extends his leadership, marking his seventh term as president since assuming power in 1986.

The results place Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert (commonly known as Bobi Wine) of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in second position with 2,741,238 votes. Other candidates trailed significantly:
Nandala Mafabi James Nathan (Forum for Democratic Change – FDC): 209,039 votes
Mujisha Gregory Muntu Ojera (Alliance for National Transformation – ANT): 59,276 votes
Bulira Frank Kabinga (Revolutionary People’s Party – RPP): 45,959 votes
Kasibante Robert (National Peasant Party – NPP): 33,440 votes
Munyagwa Mubarak Ssserunga (Common Man’s Party – CMP): 31,666 votes
Mabiriza Joseph (Conservative Party – CP): 23,458 votes

The Gazette notice was issued in Kampala on January 30, 2026, and signed by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon.

In the same Extraordinary Gazette publication, the Commission also formalized results for the 2026 General Parliamentary Elections, including those for District Woman Representatives to Parliament, as required under the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap. 177.

This gazettement represents the final statutory step in the electoral process, granting the results full legal standing and paving the way for the official commencement of President Museveni’s new term. The elections, held amid reports of low voter turnout (around 52.5% according to earlier Commission figures) and various controversies, have now been concluded through this official publication.

The publication underscores the completion of the legal formalities for Uganda’s 2026 general elections, following the Commission’s earlier declaration of results in mid-January.
