In a passionate appeal, Umukuuka IV, His Highness Joram Mayatsa Khamboson, has called upon all members of the Bamasaba community — both at home and abroad — to embrace unity, cultural pride, and collective development. Addressing his people during swearing in oath, His Highness emphasized that the progress of the Bamasaba community depends on cooperation, peace, and active participation in national development.
Umukuuka IV underscored the importance of preserving and promoting Bamasaba culture, including traditional values, language, music, and the imbalu (circumcision) ceremony, which is a cornerstone of their identity. He urged cultural leaders and youth to ensure that cultural practices are passed on to future generations in a dignified and respectful manner, fostering pride and discipline among young people.
Recognizing agriculture as the backbone of the Bamasaba sub-region, His Highness encouraged households to embrace modern and sustainable farming methods, value addition, and agribusiness as pathways to prosperity. He highlighted the need for farmers to work in cooperatives, adopt improved seed varieties, and utilize government programs such as Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) and the Parish Development Model (PDM) to increase household incomes and achieve food security.
Umukuuka IV placed great emphasis on education as a tool for transformation. He called upon parents to invest in their children’s education and to promote skills training among the youth to reduce unemployment. He noted that education not only opens doors to opportunities but also strengthens leadership and innovation within the community.
The cultural leader appreciated the Government of Uganda, led by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for its continued support towards cultural institutions and community development initiatives. He particularly thanked the government for restoring and recognizing traditional and cultural institutions, which play a vital role in promoting unity, peace, and socio-economic progress.
Umukuuka IV urged the Bamasaba to work hand in hand with the government by participating actively in its development programs aimed at improving livelihoods, such as infrastructure development, education reforms, healthcare access, and environmental conservation.
Addressing the Bamasaba living in Kenya and the Diaspora, His Highness appealed for closer collaboration and solidarity among all descendants of Masaba, regardless of where they reside. He encouraged them to contribute to the development of their ancestral homeland through investment, mentorship, and cultural promotion, ensuring that the spirit of brotherhood remains strong across borders.
In his closing remarks, Umukuuka IV reiterated that unity, discipline, and development are the pillars upon which the Bamasaba community can rise and prosper. He called upon all leaders political, religious, and cultural to work together for the common good and to uphold the dignity and identity of the Bamasaba people.
“When we stand together as one people, with one vision and one heart, nothing can stop us from transforming our community,” he said.
