The Umukuuka IV of the Bamasaaba people has issued a strong appeal for peace, unity, and non-violence as Uganda enters a period of heightened political activity ahead of national elections.
In a formal statement released through the Inzu Ya Masaaba (Bamasaaba Cultural Institution), the Umukuuka IV urged all citizens, particularly the Bamasaaba community, to engage peacefully, respect electoral laws, and uphold national values throughout the election period.

The cultural leader emphasized the importance of orderly conduct, discipline, mutual respect, and restraint, calling on citizens to reject violence in all its forms and instead embrace dialogue and lawful means of expression.
“As we begin the new year, we also enter a sensitive political season. It is my sincere appeal that all Ugandans conduct themselves peacefully and respect government election guidelines and the laws of our motherland,” the statement reads in part.
The Umukuuka IV also expressed appreciation to the Government of Uganda for restoring cultural institutions and for its continued support, noting that this has played a key role in preserving cultural heritage, strengthening democracy, and improving community wellbeing through development and poverty alleviation programs.
Special recognition was extended to the country’s security agencies for their efforts in maintaining peace, stability, and the safety of citizens during the electoral process.
The message concluded with a call for national unity, peaceful coexistence, and faith, urging leaders and citizens alike to act as positive role models, especially for the younger generation.
“Peace, peace, and peaceful living are the foundation of our collective progress and development,” the Umukuuka IV emphasized.
The statement was issued on January 12, 2026, from the Office of the Umukuuka IV in Mbale City.
