MBALE CITY BREAKS NEW GROUND WITH ELECTION OF FIRST WOMAN MAYOR

Mbale City — History was made in Mbale City after voters elected a woman to the city’s top political office for the first time, signaling a new chapter in urban leadership and public confidence in inclusive governance.

The newly elected mayor secured victory following a competitive race that attracted strong voter participation across the city divisions. Her win has been welcomed by residents, community leaders, and civil society organizations, many of whom describe the outcome as a turning point for women’s representation in local government.
Observers note that her campaign stood out for its focus on practical issues affecting everyday life in the city, including road infrastructure, sanitation, youth employment, and accountability in public service. She ran an issue-based campaign that emphasized community engagement and responsible management of public resources.
Speaking shortly after the announcement of results, the mayor-elect dedicated her victory to the people of Mbale City and promised leadership rooted in dialogue and service.
“This election shows that Mbale City is ready for leadership that listens, plans, and delivers. I will work with all stakeholders to build a cleaner, safer, and more organized city,” she said.
Political analysts say the election outcome reflects growing voter interest in competence and integrity rather than traditional political alignments. They add that the result is likely to inspire more women to contest leadership positions at both local and national levels.
As the city prepares for the next phase of administration, expectations are high that the new leadership will prioritize inclusive development and restore public confidence in city governance.
