Mbale, Uganda – April 27, 2026
The Mbale City Council Education Department has directed all primary and secondary schools, both government and private, to strictly adhere to the official school calendar and halt any holiday teaching.
In a circular issued by the City Education Officer, Hassan Nkuutu, schools have been reminded that the Ministry of Education and Sports maintains that school holidays are intended for learners to rest, spend time with their families, and allow institutions to conduct internal preparations or inspections.

According to the 2026 academic calendar, Term One will end on May 1, 2026, with holidays running until May 25, 2026. Schools have therefore been instructed not to engage learners in any academic activities during this period.
The directive also calls upon Senior Education Officers and Inspectors at the division level to ensure full compliance with the ministry’s position on holiday teaching.
“Schools are required to strictly adhere to the designated holiday periods,” the statement emphasized.
The move is part of ongoing efforts by education authorities to reinforce proper learning schedules and safeguard students’ well-being by preventing academic pressure during official breaks.
The circular was copied to key city officials, including the Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Town Clerk, Mayor, and Division Town Clerks
