Mukono, Uganda – February 11, 2026 – A shocking murder has rocked Mukono District and the Uganda Christian University (UCU) community after Pamela Tumwebaze, the 46-year-old Director of Student Affairs (also known as Dean of Students), was found strangled to death at her home in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to police reports from Mukono District, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. at her residence in Ganvu West Cell (also referred to as Guafu West Village), Seeta Ward, Goma Division. Preliminary investigations indicate that an unknown assailant gained entry into the house and strangled Ms. Tumwebaze. The housemaid reportedly spotted the intruder inside the main bedroom, where he was wearing the deceased’s jeans and stockings. The suspect then fled the scene carrying a laptop bag belonging to the victim.
The housemaid and Ms. Tumwebaze’s two young children (aged 13 and 10) later checked on her after she failed to respond, discovering her lifeless body in bed. She was rushed to Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital (also reported as Mukono Namirembe Hospital), where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has been taken to Mulago Mortuary pending a postmortem examination. The case is registered under Mukono CRB 195/2026.
Police have deployed specialized task teams and intensified operations to identify, trace, and apprehend the suspect. “We remain committed to ensuring that the perpetrator is apprehended and brought to justice,” a police statement emphasized.
The brutal killing has left the quiet residential area in shock and sparked calls for enhanced community security and better leadership in addressing rising crime concerns. Residents and colleagues described Ms. Tumwebaze as approachable, dedicated, and compassionate, noting her long association with UCU spanning over two decades. She joined as an undergraduate in 2000, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 2003, and held various roles including Tutorial Assistant, Executive Officer to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Head of the Honors College, and most recently Director of Student Affairs (a position she held for about three months while pursuing a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication).
Just hours before her death, Ms. Tumwebaze had addressed students as the keynote speaker during a community worship service at Nkoyoyo Hall on Tuesday.
Uganda Christian University issued a statement expressing profound grief: “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Ms. Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Student Affairs and a member of the Uganda Christian University Senior Management. She went to be with the LORD in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Please uphold her children, immediate family, and loved ones in prayer.
“Tributes have poured in from the university community, students, and Mukono residents, highlighting her commitment to student welfare and her warm personality. The incident has heightened fears about home invasions and prompted discussions on improving personal and neighborhood security measures.
Investigations remain ongoing, with authorities appealing for any information that could assist in solving the case. No arrests have been made as of this report.
